Gardening is supposed to be therapeutic; Top 5 most dangerous plants in the world

Firestick Plant

“My eyes were severely burned by a toxic poison.Hospitalized Mon.Excruciating pain. Now home.Pray my sight loss is restored” – tweet today from @RickWarren.

Pastor Rick Warren, author of “The Purpose Driven Life,” was ‘pruning a firestick plant,’ got some sap on his hands and then wiped his eyes, setting off an intense pain that left him speechless.

While this plant is pretty dangerous, how about these 5 most dangerous plants in the world:

5. Tobacco Plant – Only putting this on the list because of how many people it kills every year when smoked.

4. Water Hemlock – When the USDA says it is “the most violently toxic plant that grows in North America,” then it has to go on this list.

3. Deadly Nightshade – The name says it all, but oh, how juicy those berries look… which is why they’re dangerous for the kids.

2.Oleander – Great looking plant, which is why so many people have them growing in their homes (and schools!)  This plant is so toxic that you can actually get sick from eating the honey of a bee that used an oleandar for nectar!

1. Castor Oil PlantGuinness Book of World Records lists this as the deadliest plant in the world.  The poison, Ricin, is made from the beans, with a lethal dose between 4 to 8 seeds.
