Four non-traditional foods to grill out this Fourth of July weekend

As we head in to the Fourth of July weekend, steaks are being marinated and hot dogs are being wrapped with bacon in preparation for all the grilling activites that will be had…

While pretty much anyone can throw a piece of chicken on the grill and turn it over a couple of times until it’s cooked, here are some of the stranger things out there you might want to consider adding to your repertoire this 4th:

1. Bacon wrapped hot dogs.  I assume it is already part of your grilling menu, but if not, it should be.

2. Offal – “Culinary term used to refer to the entrails and internal organs of a butchered animal.” Apparently the best way to cook these is, yes, you guessed… on the grill.

3.  Grilled Fruit – Seems like the consensus is that pineapple is the easiest and tastiest. Probably not a good idea to try and grill grapes or cherries.

4. Pizza – Although the norm is in an oven, you can definitely throw a couple of these on the grill.  The Mr. Wizard of cooking, Alton Brown, has some great ideas on this.
